Author Bio

Robert Stanfield, who writes under the pen name of Robert S Field, was born in Birmingham, England, in the fifties.
A chartered quantity surveyor by profession, he worked in the UK construction industry for thirty-seven years until taking, in the noughties, a sabbatical from work to write Provenance, his first novel, the realisation of a long-held ambition.
That authorial sojourn blossomed into early retirement, since when writing – literary fiction, poetry, short stories and micro-reads – has continued to be a joyful, and essential, part of life.
Provenance, first published in December 2011, was republished in December 2025. Robert has two further published titles: Concerto, published in October 2023 and A Neat Execution, published January 2026. A completed vampire tragedy rests in the wings, awaiting its reawakening, and he is presently writing his fifth novel, a romantic blend of mystery, adventure and mysticism.
Classical guitar has always been a favourite diversion, which has led, over the years, to dalliances with the lute, sitar and ukulele. Music has a tendency, from time to time, to inject its own special romanticism into Robert’s stories.
He lives in Worcestershire, England with his partner Michèle, and all the forces of Nature that prevail on a hill in a semi-rural location. Between them, Robert and Michèle have five children and eight grandchildren.

Praise for Provenance
What a brilliant story full of suspense, murder, love, passion and humour. The imagery it creates in one’s mind through its characters and spellbinding plot is astounding. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Praise for Concerto
A gripping tale of a young musician caught between the lives of two women. The story unfolds within a rich poetic structure, embellished with a richness of language that draws the reader into this turbulent world. A fascinating read!
